Use the search function. There's been many unfortunate and foolish people like you who have experienced this. They won't do much about it if you're going to randomly promote people...

Or...you could just promote people you trust.

Without the power to kick if say the leader isnt on one day and a member is throwing insults, causing trouble ect......you could end up losing more than that member. People could take offense and leave the guild.

You have a choice to promote an officer. By promoting a member into Officer status you are handing them the power to recruit and kick.

I think this is a very bad idea.
You assign an officer because you trust him/her in selecting the right people for the guild and keeping them in the guild.
And also to remove bad people from the guild.
If your officer starts kicking members, you have promoted the wrong member to officer.

We discuss correcting misbehaving members and kicking them between officers and if necessairy with our guild leader.
That's the kind of behaviour you should expect from your officers.
If they can't handle that, don't promote them.

It would be nice if the leader can assign different privileges to different officers, but I have to agree with most of the replies. Don't give an officer position to someone you don't trust!!

Unfortunately there are a lot of "kiddie" guilds out there with kiddie leaders and officers. They are going to have these issues. I don't think the well run professional guilds have them as much.

My guild has 165 members in it and only 3 officers + Leader. It's split into 2 guilds within alliance. (LOL, unfortunately none of them ever seem to be online when I am).

I have a friend in GW who is a bit immature, but he's still a good friend. He got bored with his guild and decided to start his own. He's always telling me that my guild is stupid for having only 3 officers. He seems to think you should have a minimum of 12-20 officers. Well he got his new guild up to around 30 members, but then one of his new officers kicked everyone. He said the guy joined and started pestering him immediately to become an officer. He said the guy wouldn't let up and was asking every 5 minutes for an officer position. My friend finally promoted him to end the harassment and the jerk kicked everyone and left.

I didn't have much sympathy. I told him it's a common scam and that's why we only have 3 officers in my guild. Those 3 are trusted and we've never really needed more.

If you want to run a guild and build it into a top-notch professional guild then you should be mature enough to handle leadership responsibilities. This includes proper wisdom when selecting officers. If you instead just want a small guild for you and your buddies to hang out ingame then just invite your friends into the guild. Don't invite total strangers and certainly don't give them officer positions.

But then you stand the chance of losing all the players said person harrassed. I would rather lose one jerk to 2 or more good people. Several people have said this only promote people you trust or promote everyone so no one can mass kick. the only problem with mass promotion is then when u get the one shit head no one can kick him. And if the Leader is on vacation or something that could be problematic.

I do agree with the poster who said we should have various guild ranks.

Leader (kicks anyone)
Trusted Lt (kicks members/invites)
Lt (invites)
member (begs for runs,greens, gold,materials........)
